Chief Instructor Jason Cruz

Inspired by Bruce Lee. Mr. Cruz has been studying martial arts since he was could walk from his Father who was an avid practitioner in various martial arts and great at sparring. From his Father he learned how to kick, punch, and spar. His Father has a great eye and still coaches Mr. Cruz til now. His Uncle was also a 6th Degree, and his Grandfather also taught Jason moves in Judo, Boxing, and double stick FMA. Mr. Cruz was unable to continue his studies with his late grandfather “LoLo”.  It was in his family’s legacy to study martial arts. He studies have been in Jeet Kune Do, Silat, Kenpo, Karate, Jiujitsu, Judo, Filipino Martial Arts. He was in awe of the quality of instruction and mobility of FMA. The school he attended was diverse with majority of the students being instructors from other schools interested in learning FMA. Which enabled Mr. Cruz to study from his classmates in their arts as well. The class became a close unit called the “Pangamot Cousins” and still keep in touch today. GrandMaster Dong Meyong inheritor of the Family FMA art of Pangamot from Leyte, Philippines was an amazing martial artist. He was a short stalky man about 5’2” but was one of the most amazing instructors. Dong Meyong studied many martial arts but considered his family art to be his best. Mr. Cruz was then invited to backyard sessions on a regular bases usually being the youngest person in that group. It would be common that he would be training from 11am-11pm allowing him to train and eat with the Master. Mr. Cruz is an open minded individual and continues to study other martial arts from the leading and legendary masters of today. Those include Guro Felix Valencia (Valencia Lameco Eskrima) of which Mr. Cruz is a personal student and certified , Balintawak, Muay Thai, Submission Fighting, and various Filipino Martial Arts systems.  and other styles of Martial Arts.

He is the founder of Submission Kali, which is an open ended concept with an FMA BASE. His goals are to educate himself in anything he can get his hands on to promote and preserve the art diplomatically without the politics and pass it on, and for Legacy Martial Arts Studio to be a house of open minded individuals that respect others truths and paths. He believes in evolution of the arts and encourages students at Legacy to continue to learn other arts and find what works for them. That is why when people ask what style he practices his reply is “It’s Universal”. Students benefit from Mr. Cruz’s instruction due to his continual studies which he passes on to Legacy Students.
